Busan Port records lowest throughput among the world-top ten ports

Busan Port handled 4.86 million teu in Q1 this year, retaining the world-ranking 6th after Shanghai,Singapore,Shenzhen and HongKong, it turned out.
According to the lasest tally by Maritime Press on the world's top-ten container ports'cargo movement statistics, Busan Port and Shenzhen Port posted a record-lowest growth rate of 1.2% each in Q1 among the world-top ten ports compared with the corresponding period of last year(on-year)
Most of the world-top ten ports posted a sharp fall in cargo growth in Q1 last year as a result of the world's economic slumps.
Nevertheless into Q1 this year, most of them emerged recording a high growth rate.
Shanghai Port handled 9.35m teu in Q1 this year, posting a whopping grouth of 9.6% on-year. It handled 2.69m teu notably in March alone, a growth of 13.3% on -year in rapid recovery.
Singapore, the world-ranked second, that recorded a 9% drop in container traffics last year, grew 3% to 7.61m teu in Q1 for a fresh start this year, It handled 2.69m teu in March alone, up 6.9% from a year ago.
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, which sustained a high growth last year amid most of other top-ten ports struggling with decline in traffics, handled 5.88m teu in Q1 this year, going up to the world-ranking 3rd and outpacing and lowering Shenzhen to the world-ranking 4th. With a poor start to this year outpaced by Ningbo-Zhoushan to the world-ranking 3rd, Shenzhen posted a growth by 9.8% to 1.92m teu in March alone, marking a slow recovery.
Of the world-top ten ports, Hong Kong, which saw a big drop in container handling last year, recorded a growth of 17.1% in its throughput to 1.77m teu on -year in March alone and up 12.6% to 4.87mil teu in Q1 this year, which is a rapid recovery. On the other hand, Busan , which regained the world-ranking back to the 5th beating Hong Kong in Q1 last year, was fallen lower again to the 6th, ending up handling 4.86m teu in Q1 this year.
Guangzhou Port, which is growing rapidly along with Ningbo-Zhoushan, marked a grouth of 11.4% to 4.44m teu in Q1 on-year this year, sharply narrouwing the gap between 4.51m teu handled by the world-ranked Qingdao in the same period. Notably, Guangzhou, which handled 1.71 teu in March alone, is expected to rise to the world ranking 6th, greatly outrunning Qingdao which ended up handling 1.56m teu in the same month.
Of the world's top ten ports, the world-ranked 10th Taiwan's kaohsiung marked a record-highest growth in Q1 this year.
Kaohsiung posted 1.33m teu in March alone, up 52.7% and 3.73m teu up 53.5% in Q1 this year, a rapid rise. It outran Tianjin Port (3.35m teu),going up to the world ranked 9th.
