Busan Port handles 1.642 million TEU in April

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Lim Ki-tack) stated on March 27 that Busan Port handled 6.468 million TEU by April, a 7.1% increase YoY.
Import & export cargo and transshipment cargo were 3.115 million TEU and 3.352 million TEU, respectively, a 4.1% and 10% increase compared to the previous year. Transshipment cargo accounted for approximately 52% of the total cargo volume.
As of April 2015, the ratio of T/S cargo by nation was as follows : China (1,039,457 TEU), Japan(477,427TEU), U.S.A.(473,719 TEU),and Europe (179,775 TEU). While China, the U.S.A., and Europe increased year on year 14.1%, 10.4%, and 10.9%, respectively, Japan decreased 3.1%.
As of the end of April, the cargo handling ratio between Busan New Port and North Port was 65:35 from 64:36 last year. Cargo volume at Busan North Port increased by handling 2.228 million TEU, increasing 4.2% YOY and New Port processed 4.239 million TEU, increasing 8.7%
Container volume at Busan Port continues to grow due to the increase of T/S cargo. In particular, T/S cargo volume recorded the highest monthly volume since the opening of Busan Port by exceeding 1.63 TEU in March 2015. BPA marketing team leader kang Bu-won stated, " We will endeavor to continue to increase cargo volume at Busan Port by creating high added value through vitalizing Distripark at Busan New Port and engaging in diverse marketing activities for consignors, shipping companies, and forwarders."
