Pusan New Port now has the largest crane in the world.
MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affaires & Fisheries) announced on August 1 that Pusan New Port would be set up the world biggest crane to carry various containers from vessels to berth.
This crane was made by the Chinese company ZPMC. It is much longer(42.7 meters) than existing cranes (30 meters), and can lift 65 tonne containers at once.
The new crane can handle containers from 10,000 tonne class vessel.
MOMAF plans to bring in 9 cranes to the port by 2009 for an earlier opening of Pusan New Port.
Vice-president Robert Waker of Pusan New Port said, "We expect that Pusan New Port will be a standard for port logistics as it has the greatest crane."
One insider from MOMAF said, "Pusan New Port is located between Japan and north-east Asia has a high possibility for growth thanks to its geographic advantage." and added, "The logistic grounds for hinterlands are 4,080,000 square meters. It was selected as a Free Trade Zone, and will attract industrial facilities for international logistics facilities."
