* Large cargoes increases through Gunsan Port *

Gunsan Port increased import / export cargoes in part due to favorable car exports.
According to Gunsan Regional Maritime & Fisheries Office, the port handled 8,261,000 tons of cargoes in the first half for a total increase of 24% compared with the same period of last year. The port handled 1,781,000 tons of exports and imports skyrocketed 127% over compared with the same period last year.
By item, exports of automotive goods increased, while imports of goods like lumber, corn and pulp increased.
Meanwhile, the port exported 107,161 cars in the first half of this year, representing an increase of 308% as compared with the same period of last year. The port also handled 33,465 TEU of CKD (Car Knock Down) cargoes for a 127% increase as compared with the same period of last year. Gunsan Port played a leading role thanks to the increase of CKD exports cargoes.
Import cargoes recorded 3.47 million tons, a 6% increase as compared with the first half of last year, and coastal cargoes recorded 3.01 million tons, increasing 15% as compared with the same period. Import cargoes increased due to cargoes attractions offsetting cost increases and favorable trends in various industry sectors.
An insider at the office said, "We expect that the port will handle over 200 thousand cars, and 80 thousand CKD cargoes for the whole of this year,"and added, "When the 6th wharf for exclusive container cargoes starts operations, cargoes through the port will increase greatly."
