Busan Port handled the largest volumes in its history and remains the world's 5th largest container port. In the first half year the port handled 7,871,000 TEU, 13% up on a year ago from 6,969,000TEU, while volumes reached an average of over 1,300,000 TEU a month.
Loaded outbound containers led the rebound with a year-on-year increase of 11.4% to 2,127,000 TEU. The growth was also seen in the volume of inbound cargo, which at 2,207,000 TEU was up 16.3%.
The biggest port in Korea said it handled 3,485,000 TEU of transshipment cargoes, which was up 11.5% from 3,125,000 TEU. Meanwhile it widened the gap between Ningbo-Zhoushan Port while handling 717,000 TEU, almost 3% up on the 695,000 TEU from the corresponding period in 2010. The cargo volume of the whole world's top 10 ports increase by 8% to 90,623,000 TEU.
