Busan Port's transshipment cargo handling capacity has decreased for 5 months running and it is expected that Busan Port's yearly transshipment cargo handling volume is about to decrease for the first time in its history.
Analysts say this is due to rapid growth in other Asian ports in recent  years.
For instance, Gwangyang Port's transshipment cargo volume increased 39.9% over last year, while Incheon Port showed a 147% increase over last year.
Busan Port's import and export cargoes increased at most 0.6% compared with last year.
The large decrease in Busan Port's transshipment cargo volume seems to be largely due to Maersk's shift over to Gwangyang.
